Introduction
This is
a guide book for those of us who don’t (presently) live in Israel but who
nevertheless care about Israel’s long-term survival and want to contribute.
Contributing to Israel can be a hard or an easy mission. It can be as
difficult as picking up your entire life and moving there or as easy as
dropping a few coins into a charity box. This book is primarily for people
who are not going to turn their entire lives upside down for the Jewish
State, but who are willing to spend at least a few minutes each day –
or each week, or even month – to help Israel not only survive, but thrive,
for centuries to come.
Yes, I
said centuries. For unlike books about Israeli politics, this book is not
about borders, military options, or all the government policies that people
agree with or disagree with. On the contrary. Every suggestion in this book
is meant to help Israel carry on for generations to come – no matter who
your great-grandchildren ultimately vote for.
I
believe in the power of individuals. And I believe in the power of small
contributions to ripple into large differences. Although some of the
suggestions in this book are difficult or time consuming, most are not. The
goal was to produce a book full of suggestions that can be easily
incorporated into our lives, while still providing a comprehensive guide for
those people and activists who have more time to invest. To that end, I
tried to make this book as complete a reference book as possible, while
still keeping it a light read, easy to digest in small pieces.
Whether
you’re Jewish, Christian, Moslem or Hindu, an ardent activist, an aspiring
(or inspiring) philanthropist or an armchair General, I hope that this book
helps you find new activities, discover new friendships, expand your
experiences and generally find a few more pebbles to throw to create those
ripples that will support Israel’s very existence.
